Ajman, UAE – A 12-month pilot deployment of EndoCool’s HVAC optimisation technology at the Bahi Ajman Palace Hotel has demonstrated how retrofit efficiency solutions can help UAE hotels reduce energy consumption, operating costs, and carbon emissions without compromising guest comfort.

Bahi Ajman Hotel Chiller Energy Consumption Reduction

The pilot installation was completed in January 2025 at the 254-room Bahi Ajman Palace Hotel, where EndoCool was integrated into the property’s central comfort cooling system, The hotel features multiple restaurants and amenities, making cooling demand a critical operational requirement throughout the year.

Energy performance was measured using newly installed electrical sub-metering on the chiller plant, allowing accurate comparison against a temperature-normalised baseline developed from historical consumption data. Over the 12-month pilot period, analysis using both hourly and daily datasets showed consistent reductions in electricity use, with average HVAC energy savings of 14.86%. This equates to 395,008 kWh of electricity saved, delivering financial savings of 150,103 AED.

The project also delivered a significant environmental benefit. Based on standard emissions factors, the electricity savings correspond to 186,049 kg of CO₂e avoided, or approximately 186 metric tonnes of carbon emissions, supporting broader national decarbonisation goals.

Comfort Cooling

  • Hotel and restort with 254 rooms and a range of restaurants and other amenities.
  • Clamp-on electrical sub-meters installed for measurement and verification.
  • System volume of 50,000 litres.
  • Significant energy savings and financial savings measured.

“Cooling efficiency is one of the hardest challenges to solve in the Gulf region because systems must operate continuously at high performance levels,”

said Dale Edginton, EndoCool product manager

“What this pilot demonstrates is that meaningful energy reductions can be achieved in existing hotel infrastructure without replacing chillers or impacting guest comfort. That is critical for hotels looking to align with UAE energy efficiency targets while maintaining operational reliability.”

Aligning with UAE Energy Efficiency and Net-Zero Targets

The results come at a critical time for the UAE, which has placed increasing emphasis on energy efficiency as a core pillar of its sustainability strategy. National and emirate-level initiatives including demand-side management programmes and the UAE’s Net Zero 2050 Strategic Initiative recognise that reducing energy consumption in existing buildings is essential to meeting long-term climate and energy targets.

Hotels represent one of the most energy-intensive building types in the region, with cooling often accounting for more than half of total electricity use. Year-round high ambient temperatures, high occupancy expectations, and strict comfort standards mean that traditional energy-saving measures such as reducing setpoints or limiting operating hours are often impractical in the hospitality sector.

Addressing Hotel-Specific Efficiency Challenges

For many hotels in the UAE, improving energy efficiency is further complicated by the age of existing infrastructure, limited tolerance for guest disruption, and the capital cost of major mechanical upgrades. As a result, operators are increasingly seeking solutions that can be retrofitted into existing systems, deliver measurable savings, and operate transparently in the background.

The EndoCool pilot at Bahi Ajman Palace Hotel demonstrated that meaningful efficiency gains can be achieved without major plant replacement or changes to guest experience. By optimising the performance of the existing cooling system, the technology reduced chiller electricity consumption while maintaining required comfort conditions throughout the property.

A Scalable Model for the Region

With the hospitality sector playing a central role in the UAE’s tourism and economic growth, scalable energy-efficiency solutions will be essential to balancing sustainability objectives with operational demands. The success of the EndoCool pilot provides a data-driven example of how hotels can lower energy costs, reduce carbon emissions, and align with national efficiency targets using retrofit technologies suited to the region’s climatic realities.

As energy prices, regulatory expectations, and ESG reporting requirements continue to evolve, solutions that combine verified performance data with minimal operational disruption are expected to become an increasingly important part of the UAE hotel industry’s sustainability toolkit.
